Finance Minister Bill Morneau characterized the $4.5 million in new spending on Indigenous affairs as a continuation of the government’s work since the 2015 election

The federal government is targeting boil-water advisories, services for children and Indigenous languages in its pre-election budget — tangible files where the Liberals hope to make progress in advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

Morneau pointed out that the government spent $11 billion on Indigenous peoples in 2015, which it pledges to increase to more than $17 billion in 2021. The government is also making a large commitment to preserving Indigenous languages, with nearly $338 million over five years set aside for language revitalization projects and for the creation of the Office of the Commissioner of Indigenous Languages. The office is a key component of new Indigenous languages legislation tabled last month in the House of Commons.

That same Royal Commission also recommended that the more than 600 First Nation bands across Canada be allowed to organize into larger nations, as a means of helping Indigenous communities take jurisdiction over their own programs. This was a key component of the government’s proposed recognition of rights framework, which Trudeau announced to much fanfare in the House of Commons in February 2018.

Sad day again for Canada the Liberal Majority in the Justice Committee again Obstructed Justice by voting to STOP further investigation of themselves - under Trudeau Democracy is dead in Canada...no wonder Trudeau’s on the OECD watchlist for corruption!!!!

Done nothing for three years, but coincidentally year 4 because the one where money gets allocated. I'm sure it has nothing to do with an election...

This is transparent vote buying, similar to U.S. Democrats proposing reparations. No doubt most of the money will be wasted and will not assist Indigenous communities.

Bullshit...empty promises for moron's votes ....

Dear Indigenous Cdns, Here's a little dangling carrot on a string to help you forget about what we did, and continue to do to Jody Wilson Raybould? Sincerely, WillyPorno Morneau, Minister of Insider Trading ShadyWays Budget2019

So drowning Canadians in debt and higher taxes, making life more difficult in the future for all. Meanwhile, the incompetent Trudeau destroys competitiveness and relationships with all of our economic trading partners. Canada is going down the drain.

It’s not reconciliation. It’s a bribe. Liberals like the Trudeau handshake. cdnpoli

The corrupt Liberals keep up with their goal to keep Indigenous Canadians as perpetual Wards of the State instead of giving them energy sector prosperity ,jobs ,wealth and hope.cndpoli

I think they will find that indigenous Canadians are nowhere near as stupid as they think
