A young man who died from a suspected overdose at a music festival in Victoria has been remembered as the “most loyal and caring human” by his best friend. Antony Maugeri, 23, was found unresponsive at the Pitch Music and Arts Festival in Moyston, near Ararat in the Grampians, on Sunday morning. He was flown to the Alfred Hospital but later died. Tributes have poured in for the young man from Niddrie, including from his best friend Andre Srour.
The extreme temperature combined with substance abuse was a recipe for disaster, Greens MP Aiv Puglielli said. “Young people no idea what that substance is going to do to them, and then you compound that with the extreme heat that we’ve seen over this past weekend, this was truly a disaster waiting to happen.” About 18,000 people were expected to attend the sold-out festival across the four days.
