A 63-year-old Bexley man has been charged over the alleged hit-and-run that killed a New Zealand man metres from his home in Sydney’s east just after 4am last Sunday. The young lawyer, Mitch East, 28, was found with critical injuries on Fletcher St at Tamarama, where he died of critical injuries. 7NEWS understands East had just stepped out of an Uber near his home when he was struck.

The driver who allegedly left him to die was arrested by investigators at Granville Police Station at 11am on Friday, and charged with a number of offences. He was charged with failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing death, dangerous driving occasioning death drive manner dangerous, negligent driving and driver use mobile phone when not permitted.
