‘We need ocean governance regime’

LANGKAWI: With more than 10 ministries and 31 maritime-related agencies entrusted with managing Malaysia’s maritime space, the government is looking at having an ocean governance regime to address overlapping jurisdictions.Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says such a regime is needed because there should be an overarching policy to cover maritime aspects – security, safety, economy and the environment.
