“Coal is the world’s biggest cause of climate change - and Australia is the world’s biggest exporter of coal,' says Australian Greens leader Richard Di Natale. 'Unless we phase out coal, we can’t deal with climate change.'

Carbon-free electricity and a halt to thermal coal exports - both by 2030 - and the revival of an economy-wide carbon price top the climate policies the Greens will campaign on at the upcoming federal election.

At the end of 2018, renewables supplied about 20 per cent of the National Electricity Market, including rooftop solar. By contrast, the Morrison government has not set a target beyond 2020, while Labor is pledging a 50 per cent renewables share by 2030.plan, the Greens would also seek to phase out all exports of thermal coal used in power plants by that year, using an auction system. The scheme would also levy at least $268 million in the first five years to help fund trade diversification.

Alan Pears, a senior industry fellow at RMIT University, said energy efficiency was widely known as "the first fuel" and should be a priority for any serious climate action. The Greens would also aim to cut Australia's 2005-level greenhouse gas emissions by 63-82 per cent by 2030 - without using any "credits" for over-achieving the Kyoto Protocol goals - in a bid to make the nation carbon-neutral by 2040.

Coal is expected to be Australia's largest export this financial year, with shipments of coking coal - used to make steel - and thermal coal totalling a forecast $67 billion,. Of that total, thermal coal would generate about $26 billion in export revenue.

Bollocks. The world is actually cooling. Record snow falls globally, ice caps growing, world's largest glacier growing - CO2's influence is minute. This nothing but globalist propoganda.

They really do want us to regress to an agrarian society. Whilst we do need to act on climate change I don’t know how this will achieve anything. We are a population of 25m. The USA alone is 350m or thereabouts. Why is nuclear not considered?

barbalatte Better tell China....

WE can do it and create new jobs in these new industries. RichardDiNatale billshortenmp

This bloke doesn’t know much. Carbon is .04% of the Earths atmosphere of which 3% is man made .012%

Only person who should be phased out is Richard Di Natale😂

Climate change is a load of crap just like the Greens

And greens will put the money we don’t get from exporting coal back into Australia. Of course.

England banned Home Heating with coal briquettes and Magic happened End Of Pea Soup Fog/Smog

People have their heads in the sand re: climate change. Its always someone else’s problem. Get it together people or future generations will be living in a world of pain.

And the latest high-quality modelling says if we get to 4 degrees global warming, we get a bonus 8 degrees for free. Most of Australia will become uninhabitable in summer, but nobody's talking about what *that* will do to jobs and the economy! o.o

Any country have 100 per cent renewable?

But as usual the greens won’t have an alternative policy!

Our bread and butter! Don’t export our economy goes backwards so before we ditch it need another avenue to pursue!

The main cause if Climate Change is the Green cultists. If they were banned from Social media, the Climate would stop changing with every weather event.

This is an extreme policy position that would cost plenty and do nothing for the climate

what can you do? just total ban of coal export? 50k workers in coal mines

Climate change is a fraud from Globalist Crony capitalists who want you to give your economy over to them

Get rid of the Greens before they’d emd us broke! 👍🏼
