A man who was trapped for 36 hours in a drain while trying to look for his phone has been rescued in Brisbane’s inner south. A resident called emergency services after hearing screaming coming from a stormwater drain on Castlebar St, Kangaroo Point about 11am on Monday, according to the Courier Mail.

The man told emergency services he had gone into the drain to retrieve his phone and had been crawling around the drain network for 36 hours before he was found. He said at times he was submerged in water, including when it rained outside, and he had also drunk the drain water to survive. It’s unclear exactly where the man first entered the drain system.
