A young man who died after clubbing in Barangaroo, in central Sydney, has been remembered as a “hard-working” athlete. Lorcán Branagan, 26, was reported missing on Sunday night after visiting Bungalow8, a club on King St Wharf. On Monday afternoon, police divers found Branagan’s body in the water off Barangaroo. It is understood Branagan had travelled to Australia from Northern Ireland in November 2023 and was due to return home within weeks.
Lorcán was also a senior player with Gaelic football club Clonduff GAC, which announced his “tragic passing” in a social media post. “Our club and community are absolutely devastated at the loss of a wonderful, young gentleman who represented our club with great distinction,” it said. “Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with Lorcán’s family.” It is understood the death is the second tragedy to hit the Branagan family, after Lorcán’s older brother Peárce died in 2018.
