The $30-million investment represents a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to enhance road safety in the North.

I am writing to express my gratitude for the coverage of the new commercial vehicle inspection station near Shuniah in your recent publication. As the Member of Provincial Parliament for Thunder Bay-Superior North, I feel compelled to address some of the concerns raised by one of your readers, Gary Kader.

Mr. Kader raises important questions about the staffing of inspection stations. Wages are not competitive with work available in other industries making it very difficult to recruit and retain workers. I would add to this, as well, the vital need for improved regulations for trucking schools, and the implementation of legislation like "Chad's Law" to prevent dangerous passing on our highways. These concerns are not only valid but urgent.
