Crowdfunding campaigns pretending to be supporting a push to reunite a magpie with its dog best friend are fake, the couple behind the much-loved interspecies relationship have warned. Gold Coasters Juliette Wells and Reece Mortensen have also urged people not to “spread hate” by targeting people who advocated for the removal of Molly the magpie by Queensland wildlife officials.
“We do please ask that you do not spread hate or fear on these people,” Wells and Mortensen wrote on the Peggy and Molly Instagram page. “I know of one person who made a mistake of putting her name out in one of the articles and is fearing her safety.” Their latest message to followers, posted late on Thursday, also told people “do not donate” to “any fundraiser asking for money” related to their push to reunite Molly and Peggy. “This is not us,” the couple said.
