Nio has partnered with several Chinese automakers to develop battery swap standards and expand the network in China. The company has installed over 2,300 battery swap stations, but only a fifth of them are currently profitable. Nio's investment in battery swap stations is ahead of market demand, according to CEO William Li. The company has also partnered with battery giant CATL and two local battery companies to alleviate consumers' concerns about driving range.

Since November, Nio has partnered with at least four Chinese automakers — Changan, Geely, Chery and JAC — for developing battery swap standards and expanding the network in China. Nio has installed more than 2,300 battery swap stations but said less than a fifth currently are breaking even.
