A man has faced court charged with the murder of a Victorian teacher whose body was found in a burnt-out car. The body of 23-year-old Hannah McGuire was found near State Forest Rd in Scarsdale, an area near Ballarat surrounded by bushland, on Friday just before 10am. She had been reported missing by a family member earlier that morning. On Sunday, homicide detectives search a property in Sebastopol and arrested two men, aged 21 and 22.
McGuire’s parents run the National Hotel in Clunes, where Hannah is also believed to have worked occasionally. After McGuire’s body was located, the pub closed due to “unforeseen circumstances” and has remained shut since. It will reopen on Wednesday, with a friend running the business for a few days, as a Facebook post thanked the community for their “love, support and kind words”. “You weren’t just a star to us. You were our whole damn sky. Miss you Princess!” the post read.
