Mayor London Breed’s tour through the much-hyped and glistening new Saluhall food hall on Market Street this week actually started in 2018.
The whirlwind tour will take her through the cities of Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Beijing, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, a sister city of San Francisco since 1980. In an interview ahead of her departure, she told The Examiner that she would establish relationships and “make magic happen.” The trip follows The City’s hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in November, which brought Chinese President Xi Jinping to The City. Breed is now heading to China on Xi’s invitation, according to the mayor’s office.The mayor will meet with executives from multiple China-based airlines, which could play a vital role in the continued recovery of San Francisco’s tourism industry following the COVID-19 pandemic.
