In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the UN chief said climate disasters have a significant impact on the economies of nations.“Climate disasters are also economic disasters,” Guterres said.“It is vital that all countries develop new and ambitious climate action plans by next year.” Sustainable Development Goal 13 focuses on climate action and calls for urgent measures to combat climate change and its impacts. To do this, countries have adopted the Paris Agreement to work toward limiting global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius.
In 2025, countries are expected to submit their second nationally determined contributions and this presents an opportunity to improve ambition and enhance implementation to achieve the Paris Agreement.
