U.S. stocks mostly finished higher Thursday amid expectations for the U.S. and China to make progress towards ending their longstanding trade spat. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.21% was up 0.2% to finish near 2,879. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.64% advanced 166 points, or 0.6%, to end near 26,385, based on preliminary numbers. The Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.05% was down less than 0.1% to end around 7,892.
