Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has called on the prime minister to speak to the Chinese president after a in front of an Australian Navy helicopter in international waters. The near-catastrophic incident occurred about 7.30pm on Saturday during a routine operation in the Yellow Sea off South Korea.Dutton said it wasn’t the first time the Chinese military had taken things too far, pointing to an incident when after sonar pulses were detected from a Chinese warship.
Speaking on Nine’s Today program, Dutton said he wanted peace to prevail but countries like China had to follow the international rule of law.“I think the prime minister has to pick the phone up and express our deep concern because at the moment we’ll see a response from China to deny that it happened or that we had made a mistake,” he said.
