An Uber driver is accused of raping a customer in Sydney’s inner west earlier this month. The 48-year-old man was working in Ashfield when he allegedly assaulted the woman inside his driveshare vehicle about 7.30am on Sunday, May 5. A five-day investigation led to the man’s arrest at a Birrong home on McCrossin Ave about 7am on Friday, May 10. He was charged with sexual intercourse without consent and sexually touching another person without consent, NSW Police said.
It will be alleged in court the 48-year-old touched the woman without consent before he drove to a nearby park and raped her, according to The Daily Telegraph. It reports he then allegedly dropped the victim off in a nearby suburb, and that the woman then immediately reported the incident and went to the hospital. The alleged offender was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court on Saturday. He remains in police custody and is next due to appear at Burwood Local Court on July 10.
