The report said that in the last 12 months, wholesale inflation rose 3.4%. Annual inflation rose in line with expectations and fell from 3.5% in March. Although inflation remains stubbornly elevated, some analysts note that it is easing fears that the Federal Reserve could be forced to raise interest rates. Adam Button, Head of Currency Strategy at Forexlive.com described the latest inflation report as a bit of a Goldilocks.
“Headline CPI cooled to 3.4% YoY, from a prior 3.5%, while the MoM headline figure came in softer than expected at 0.3%. More pleasingly, core CPI fell to 3.6% YoY, its lowest level since May 2021,” he said in a note.
