Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young has joined the fight to ensure major sporting events remain free to watch for all Australians, rather than being locked behind paywalls by the big streaming companies. The Albanese government is currently attempting to pass amendments to anti-siphoning laws through the Prominence and Anti-Siphoning Bill — which has been heavily criticised for being too relaxed.

Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young joins the battle to keep TV free. The bill passed the House of Representatives, however, Hanson-Young said the bill would not get her support in the Senate unless important changes to ensure access to sport is free across digital devices. The bill in its current form prevents streaming services such as Amazon, Apple, and Disney from buying exclusive “broadcast rights” to major sporting events, such as the AFL and Olympics.
