New road cameras have caught out 52,000 Victorian motorists and raked in millions of dollars in seatbelt and mobile phone fines. Ten months after the road safety cameras were launched, it has been revealed more than 5000 drivers and passengers are being snapped doing the wrong thing every single month.

Victoria’s new road cameras catching out dangerous driving. Twenty-eight per cent of people stung are men aged between 30 and 39. Police Minister Anthony Carbines said he was “shocked” by the figure given that the age demographic “should know better” and “should be setting an example for younger road users”. “These are drivers with experience, people who perhaps aren’t used to being told , who feel that they know best,” he said.
