Seven people, including four children, have been treated for suspected chemical exposure at a Toowoomba aquatic centre on Monday night. Swimmers alerted staff and emergency services to the incident about 6pm on Monday. The aquatic centre on Victoria St in Toowoomba was evacuated as Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews began investigating the cause of the incident.
A woman in her 20s presented with mild respiratory symptoms and was taken to Toowoomba Base Hospital. Another woman in her 20s presented with emotional distress but declined transport to hospital. A woman in her 40s was assessed at home after leaving the scene, however declined hospitalisation. A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service’s spokesperson said four crews were sent out to the scene, and atmospheric testing was done to try to determine the cause of the incident.
