AFL great Brendon Fevola has reignited the Dustin Martin rumour mill, claiming the Richmond legend will ‘retire’ after his upcoming 300th game while suggesting there is more to the story. Martin fended off headlines around his season with a stellar performance in the Tigers’ Dreamtime loss to Essendon on Saturday night. In his 298th AFL game, he kicked three goals as he attempted to will his side to victory before ultimately falling short of what would have been his first win of the season.
The footballer still battles with his grief to this day. “Since his old man passed away, it’s been a challenge for Dusty,” close friend and premiership captain Trent Cotchin told Channel 7’s Talking Footy two weeks ago. Speaking on Tuesday, Fevola said he believes Richmond “already know” Martin is going to leave. “I think they know in their heart of hearts,” the radio host said. “So they might say ‘hey mate, if you’re leaving – retire, this could be your retirement game’.
