A new study that ranked states by their economic strength and performance placed Utah in the second spot, coming in only behind the state of Washington., compared the 50 states' and the District of Columbia's economic activity, economic health and innovation potential.
"The median annual household income in the state is the second-highest in the country after adjusting for the cost of living," according to the study, which notes a growth in average income by 6.8% over the course of two years. The rankings placed the median income at about $84,000 - the amount of money Utahns keep after taxes.
The study also found that Utah has great potential for future business growth, with the fifth-highest growth rate in the number of businesses and the sixth-highest share of jobs in high-tech industries.
