Emergency crews have returned to the Sydney suburb of Whalan following a deadly explosion on Saturday afternoon, after locals reported they could “smell gas” on Tuesday morning. NSW Fire and Rescue were on the site by 8am, investigating the cause of the odour. Gas company, Jemena Energy, and the local council’s Rapid Response Team were also at the scene. On Tuesday, Sunrise reporter Liam Tapper was also on site, explaining the situation.
“Jemena Energy, they’re the gas company, they’re here on scene too. “We have members of the council Rapid Response Team here in Blacktown, on scene too, because no-one wants to take any risks after what happened on Saturday. “It is obviously going to take quite some time throughout the morning. “Crews will remain here.” Tapper said early verbal reports from the response team suggested no gas was being detected.
