A woman with life-threatening injuries is among nine people injured in two crashes that closed the Bruce Hwy in both directions on the Sunshine Coast. Both crashes occurred in the suburb of Coochin Creek before 7am on Friday. Multiple vehicles including a truck crashed in the southbound lanes about 6.30am. At 6.43am, a motorbike and another vehicle crashed in the northbound lanes. It is believed the woman, aged in her 50s, was on the motorbike when it was struck from behind by a car.
She was treated at the scene for multiple injuries before being flown by a rescue helicopter to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition. Eight more people were taken by ambulance to either Sunshine Coast University Hospital or Caboolture Hospital. All eight were in a stable condition. Traffic diversions are in place but police have urged drivers to avoid the area. “Both lanes blocked. Long delays expected. Use alternative route,” a state government traffic alert read.
