LABUAN: The purchase of the iconic vacant HSBC building by Sunlight Pharmacy - a renowned Sabah-based pharmacy group, is viewed as a refreshing news for the island whose economy had been bleak for some time now.

Chief of Labuan Women’s Affairs Association , Fauziah Datuk Din, said the property purchase indicates investors’ interest in Labuan commercial properties.But she noted that while the HSBC building that had been vacant since end of 2021 could find a buyer within a short span of time, the 11-storey Hotel Labuan abandoned since 1997 and along the same road of HSBC was struggling to find a solution, despite vigorous efforts, including plans to demolish it.
