Gold Coast have broken Collingwood hearts after putting paid to the Magpies’ huge comeback with a monumental finish of their own. The Suns led by 32 points late in the third quarter but Collingwood’s experience in close games seemed to count when they took the lead with four minutes left on the back of six unanswered goals. In front of a sell-out 23,029 strong crowd, Bodhi Uwland broke a tackle and Ben Long bombed a goal before Ben Ainsworth added another.
But they are now within touching distance in a tight season of finally breaking their September drought. Ben King kicked four goals while Noah Anderson was everywhere and Sam Flanders was also prolific. Collingwood looked destined for another final-quarter fairytale when the returning Jordan De Goey brushed a tackle and booted a ripping goal from the pocket. Nick Daicos then did it himself from the centre bounce to make it a four-point game.
