Geelong fans can breathe a sigh of relief with in-demand premiership hero Tyson Stengle set to stay at the club. 7NEWS chief AFL reporter Mitch Cleary has reported that Stengle will sign a five-year deal to stay with Geelong. Cleary said the original offer from Geelong was for four years, but the Cats have come to the party and added another year as rivals circled the All-Australian small forward. Cleary said Geelong’s deal was worth around $3.

He made an instant impact, too, becoming an All-Australian in his first season at the Cats and helping the all-conquering team power its way to its first premiership since 2011. Stengle’s AFL career was at the crossroads before he joined the Geelong. In 2020 he was stood down by Adelaide after another off-field discretion that followed a drink-driving charge. In 2021 he played SANFL and had a standout year at his junior club Woodville West Torrens.
