SEN. Aquilino Pimentel III and representatives of Bayan Muna Party-list have reiterated their plea for the Supreme Court to immediately enjoin implementation of Republic Act No 11954 or the Maharlika Investment Fund Act of 2023.
The petitioners at the SC stressed that the law was passed despite non-compliance with the legislative process as required under the Constitution. The OSG also countered the petitioners’ claim that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. abused his discretion when he certified as urgent House Bill 6608 and Senate Bill 1670.
“Furthermore, respondents did not dispute any of the factual averments in their comment and therefore deemed to have admitted the same. Hence, direct resort to the Honorable Court is justified in this case considering that this petition involves pure questions of law,” they added.
