About 40 per cent of Australians admitted they'd rather receive their relative's assets while they're still alive, according to new research.

Millions of Australians are banking on an inheritance and would prefer to have it paid out prior to their relative's death, new research has found., found more than 1 in 3 respondents expect to receive an inheritance over the coming decades with a whopping 40 per cent admitting they'd rather receive their relative's assets while they're still alive.

Personal finance expert at Finder, Sarah Megginson, said trillions of dollars worth of assets were set to be inherited over the coming years. Megginson said while most Australians will have to wait it out in some cases it is possible to receive an inheritance sooner. "It's not a decision that should be made without some serious consideration of your future financial needs and also the tax impacts."
