Intel was founded in 1968 by Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce, after the two left Fairchild Semiconductor. Intel’s main rival, AMD, was also founded by former Fairchild employees one year prior to Intel’s founding.
Intel went public via an IPO in 1970, and raised $6.8 million in the offering. The company is now worth hundreds of billions.
