HAVING worked in three different professions in my career over four decades : engineering; banking; and, association management, where integrity is essential. I thought I knew this virtue well enough.
When you ride a bicycle and the wheels are whole, complete, unbroken, unimpaired, sound and in perfect condition, you are assured 100-percent workability that allows for maximum opportunity for performance. However, when one of its spokes is broken, workability declines and performance diminishes. If you keep on using the bike in this condition, at some point—and you won’t know when—the wheel stops working and performance is lost.
In summary, integrity-based leadership is indeed the foundation of workability and performance. By fostering trust, ensuring fairness, and promoting accountability, association leaders with integrity create an environment where members and other stakeholders can thrive and processes can operate efficiently.
