'Recession by Christmas': Peter Dutton warns of dire economic circumstances that could push Labor to an early election

Alongside concerns over the Prime Minister's attendance at the summit, the Opposition Leader flagged Labor could jump to an early election to capitalise upon short-term cost-of-living reliefs. "There's a chance that interest rates go up by another 25 or 50 points or another half a percent. I can hear the Treasury Secretary saying to the Prime minister, 'Look, we could be in a recession by Christmas'."

Mr Dutton believes the Prime Minister could call an early election amid a dire economic outlook.
