The world-famous Paddy’s Markets in Sydney’s CBD is set for a makeover, welcoming a huge range of new food hall-style stalls and more following a win in the NSW Supreme Court. The Haymarket institution, which has welcomed locals and tourists alike for decades, will be transformed in a multimillion-dollar project — welcoming almost 50 new fresh produce and eat-in food stalls in a similar vein to the Grand Central Market in Los Angeles and famed European food halls.
The updated market is set to open in January 2025, The Sydney Morning Herald reported. Facing the prospect of relocation within the precinct to make way for the new project, 25 long-time retailers fought the plans in a Supreme Court hearing which began on June 17. The court ruled in favour of the operator, Sydney Markets, and the upgrade is now set to go ahead. Sydney Markets CEO Brad Latham previously told 7NEWS the markets were desperate for a revamp.
