Johnny Lim , BIMP-EAGA Business Council head of tourism for Sandakan chapter, believes that the current marketing was not serving them well in bringing the desired target groups.
“But what we want to see is the Sandakan YB or our State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry pushing arrivals through the new airport to different countries and airlines. “Sandakan may not have many islands that could compete with Kota Kinabalu or Semporna but we do have highly-rated conservation attractions like the Sepilok centres for orang-utan, sunbear and proboscis monkey, and the turtle island park.
He also said a lot of international students are also doing their internships in research centres here and this is something the government should look into.
