The Chief Secretary to the Treasury will use a speech to lay out her Thatcherite credentials for the the Tory leadership.

"We've already made progress on this and last year we delivered over 222,000 homes. That's the highest level in all but one of the last 31 years."Ms Truss, Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Chancellor Philip Hammond's deputy, is attempting to portray herself as the Thatcherite candidate in the Tory leadership race.

"Our number one challenge is economic growth," she will say."The way we are going to get growth up is to leave our comfort zone, challenge ourselves, and take more risks.""They are heroes - take Carole Kane and her business partner, Mahmud Kamani, who set up Boohoo in Manchester. Risking their own money - they created clothes, jobs and a bright future for their city.

The UK is facing not one but five concurrent mini housing crises - each with dramatically different consequences and solutions, research from Sky News finds

Nope getting out of the EU would boost the economy!!

Yeah because that helps the environment 🤦‍♂️

The economy doesn’t need boosting, we don’t need a million homes, but we do need green belt land. Do you want to ruin the country?

Enough with high value executive homes. Our kids need affordable homes. Our town is full of 4/5 bedroom boxes. High band council tax and nothing going on in town as they nearly all commute distances for work. Thats the new selling mantra.

You could always regenerate and improve 'no go' estates for the benefit of locals. Up Policing and community awareness, give the kids something to do to keep them off the streets. Put pride back into places. People appreciate having a nice place to live.

Can’t boost an economy building something people can’t afford to buy

How about redevelop the thousands of run down/neglected/ unliveable properties that already exist and leave the countryside alone!

Just think how good their economy is!

Did I read she wants to follow May? We don’t need new homes we need to control immigration which, like Brexit, isn’t happening

Clueless

OR how about redeveloping all those existing homes, estates, villages, and communities that have been left to look tired and dated over the last 10+ years?

We don’t need to build more homes, we need a cull...

Build stuff.... That's a good response to the climate change emergency.

Too much green belt land is being used for big houses for the richer person. House sizes should be reduced. People who don't look after their gardens should be moved into flats.

BIG mistake Ms Truss

The problem is not the right homes are being built on brownfield sites, and like it or not this will happen,as homes across the country are aimed at the second home owners, and the buy to let brigade, green belt land, how much people disagree,it will happen.

Tell her to build an extra one in her garden and tell us how she likes it

She is obviously from the teresa may school of how to piss people off. Leadership? 😂😂😂

1. We have to retain our green belt re climate HS2 is bad enough. 2. For those of us living in such areas the council rates are higher, need car to get anywhere how can you build affordable homes in such areas Liz Truss consistently shows she is out of her depth as a politician

Only build council homes

How about making housing more affordable and not killing off the environment by concreting over green space.

That’s really bloody sensible. Maybe if she put rent and price caps on properties in London etc then ordinary people maybe able to afford them AND enjoy a bit of green space too! Just a thought

Miliions for builders nothing for economy only eco disaster

How about draining the swamp... stop the inexorable rise in population

It's funny how all the homes on 'green belt' near me are executive, five bedroom ones - what's more they're incredibly affordable, honest. I'd have two or three if only I could find my Green Shield Stamps.

Nimbies

Yeah let’s start taxing the living fuck out of us on the environmental con while at the same time ruining the country side and chopping down tens of thousands of trees. Makes sense 🙄🙄🙄

No. Reduce the population FFS

What’s to say ! But are we there yet EddieHearn ?

no green belt building

Truss air head

And after green belt what? Oh yes school playing fields then village squares. Better off compulsory purchase tesco landbank portfolio and sains every home unoccupied

No

There's enough brown land sites, especially if immigration was at a sensible level.

Who we really need

Not at the cost of our trees!

Move the jobs, don’t kill the green belt.

How about stop the economic rat race and give quality back to the country more more more money Sunday’s was once a day where you would be lucky to see 10 cars on the road now it’s like a Friday rush hour !

This woman is a joke.... then why not turn the entire land into one big housing estate?

Or Govt could just stop importing 280,000 net migrants into the country every year so the demand drops and the supply can finally catch up. But that would reduce property prices and rents and no party, if it were honest enough to admit it, wants that vote-loser to happen.

Yeah corbyn said that like 2 years ago bar the green belt.
