Smack in the middle of the campaign, the March quarter inflation figures were delivered to a stunned audience.

In last month's federal Budget, the Government estimated inflation this financial year would come in at a paltry 1.5 per cent."Jobs and growth" was the Coalition's catchcry for much of the past six years.
