dear all tourists, lets enjoy tear gas at Sunday night near HK shopping malls

The gov seemed to be too comfortable with the influx of chinese tourists. Has it done enough to capture other markets?

drizziedrew time for a trip

Tourism diversification was not well managed, we heavily rely on tourist from mainland China. HongKongProstest was about freedom democracy which Mainland citizens shud not be exposed to. That’s why they stop tours to HK. Still Visitors from the globe are all welcome.

Yeah, going to HK to travel!

Amazing how globalist BS propaganda now infests the WSJ. No, it's the clearest indication China needs to leave HK alone.

Hong Kong’s tourism is replying on Mainland China TOO MUCH. This type of decline would happen sooner or later even without the protests. I reckon it is a good opportunity for Hong Kong to tune its strategy on tourism.

Might be time to come to the table with USA.Let’s make both countries prosper

No one wants to come to a battlefield

That’s okay, China is gonna fill them right quick.

There were too many Chinese tourists. 50m last year. HK population is just 7m. Lives of HKers were disrupted - shops for locals were replaced by those targeting Chinese tourists. Streets became difficult to navigate. Probably it’s the time to rectify the situation. StandWithHK

HK development just over-relies on tourism, service industry, finance, real estate, and for long time ignores high-tech and other industries.

So laughable that these rioters said they fought for freedom while trashing the city and destroying the livelihood of others.

Tourism only contribute 4.5% of GDP. Cost of living of citizens is still extremely high.

Chinese tourism is down across SE Asia due to economic conditions in China.

Thanks to the CCP backed HK police the terrorist style threatening anyone on sight videos circling around internet, who would dare to come to HK. Tasting TG while shopping in TST or Causeway Bay? No thanks! chinazi

Tourists as weapon. China control permit for mainlanders come to HK. Just like they ban mainlanders tourists go to S.Korea because THADD anti-missile system deploy.

How about the Chinese Communist Party extending their fascism over the citizens of Hong Kong? Who threw the first punch? Who is in power? Are the “Rioters” “Freedom Fighters?” It’s time to shed Chinese dogma that has Chinese Characteristics. I’m a longtime reader of the Journal.

Trump will take credit for China’s economy suffering saying it’s from his tariffs. You can count on it.

Oh I don’t know why that would be... because it’s about to become “The Shit Is On Fire Show”? 🔥

What?!? And they are missing out on the bargains? Say it ain't so

Hong Kong isn’t even bothered by this. Leave them alone lmao.

It's the violent protests ruining HK, not the HK police or the mainand Chinese. Now people avoid traveling to HK, you are happy now to enjoy the results you made.

There were too many Chinese tourists all along, eg about 50 million last year. This is enormous - HK population is just around 7m. Many residents feel this disrupted lives. Streets became difficult to navigate. Shops serving locals were replaced by shops targeting at tourists.

that's good news

Yes, protests ruin economy. But I must say that the previous economic status quo is unhealthy in that it is overly reliant on China.

Tear gas notwithstanding, hong kong has not been this breathable for a long time. It's almost peaceful without all those mainland tourists

As a Hongkonger, fewer Chinese tourists are more benefit to HK economy and society.

lets ask police why

A city kidnapped by thugs and losers will fall.

Good in-depth article on real situation of Hong Kong, the world which thought HK was safest place, now understood how HK police is heartless.Violence is bad whoever does it protestors or police.Neglecting Mainlanders is not good as part of HK economy depends on them.

HK's tourism was relying too heavily on Chinese tourists, to a point it's unhealthy. Now that China has almost completely banned its people from visiting HK, so of course the number looks dramatic. Doesn't mean that it should go back to pleasing only Chinese tourists.

This time it's a man-made crisis. Protesters keep raising up their bar of demands and refuse any compromise, at the same time they are getting more and more violent!

Think it’s time for the tourists to know that HongKong isn’t a perfect paradise, she is sick for an awful long time. She need two treatments, one is called ‘Democracy’ and the other one is called ‘Freedom’ HongKongProtests antiELAB FreeHK DemoracyNow StandwithHK

This is understood in the orevailing circumstances...

this is what you're reporting from Hong Kong?

And reporting on this issue with images like these certainly doesn't help matters. This seems irresponsible
