BUENOS AIRES—It was a familiar scene for Argentines. As a financial crisis engulfing the country entered its fourth week in early September, residents were lining up at banks to withdraw dollars from their accounts, hoping to keep their savings safe.

They had yanked close to $6 billion when President Mauricio Macri’s government took emergency measures. After implementing currency controls, it tapped the central bank’s dollar deposits at the U.S. Federal Reserve, airlifting some $4 billion in cash packed in compressed, heat-sealed...

stacyherbert the visible hand of God, maybe.

A lot of this is the IMF’s doing (no surprise there) I mean as usual they used the opportunity to demand ill-advised, ideologically motivated economic policy changes which when Argentina complied threw the country into recession and even deeper debt

due to lack of confidence in government.

Again!

And what are we supposed to do about it? I mean it's their problem, they should fix it

350 billion dolar most of it out of country.

WS is responsable for lending our goverments too much money. The lenders don´t evaluate risks properly.

That can’t be the only reason because you’re describing every country in the world.

This applies to all African countries

sounds familiar....

Huh. Just like the United States.

Irony, when a 'newspaper' from the most indebted country in the world, at $23 Trillion, lectures other countries about living beyond their means. 🤡🌎

The current administration pushed through a tax cut that was supposed to accelerate the economy. Instead it resulted in more wealth hoarding by those who could accomplish it and a ballooning national debt. US doesn’t get the privilege of economic criticism

Boy, that sounds familiar

Really? Taking lessons from the United States. Too bad they can’t legally print world reserve dollars like our financially repressive federal reserve. They too could have a fake economy on steroids.

mistrmeh_ca

Now imagine if they tried to eliminate cows (a major portion of Argentina's GDP) and buy everyone electric and hybrid cars, eliminate fossil fuel plants (50% of electricity) and shutdown nuclear reactor that Bernie and his cult want to do in America

bad people, bad voters

Any country that runs a deficit is living beyond its means. Don’t just single out Argentina.

The problem of Argentina is that they DARE to enjoy a life standard beyond what was supposed to live? The problem with Argentina is the same throughout our continent: United States Imperialism. Every time whe dare to stand our ground, whe suffer aggresions from the US.

That applies to just about every country on earth 🤔

Hmmm

“It's living beyond its means, with the government routinely spending more than it makes”. Where have I heard that before?

alternative title *we supported extra hard a president that barely can read, giving him an insane amount of money just because we like his party better*

Way to call a girl out, WSJ

Just like USA

geniuses

Spending more than it makes Sounds like democrats to me🤷‍♂️

Sounds like our Country thanks to the taxscam gift to the 1%.

Median Argentine worker is making USD 350 a month, having a real hard time to make ends meet. Come and live a season here with these 'means'. It'll be an experience, granted

Not a problem for realDonaldTrump USA

hmmm...sounds like another government I know

Sounds familiar - a lot like PresidentPussyAssBitch

Sounds vaguely familiar to a certain country I know of.

the $USD is the world's greatest ponzi scheme. Why is it worth anything if It can be just be printed out of thin air?

Soon they will be asking for a US taxpayer bail out.

Sounds like me.

How big is our deficit again?

Who would’ve thought.

The U.S. federal government has been living beyond its means for decades. Will we (USA) take note? We can't depend on the petrodollar being the reserve currency forever. 😓

Everyone is living beyond its means. Get to the point.

The government spends more than it makes, sounds too familiar. NationalDebt debt usdebt

I wonder if the WSJ is aware of the trillion dollar deficits we now have thanks to Dear Leader’s tax cut for the rich which the Journal itself supported. Well, I answered my own question.

porque la gente consume un producto generado por 'la prensa', y este producto no es controlado por el estado, como todos los productos que se comercializan en cualquier parte del mundo. Entonces, al consumir productos sin control, la gente se enferma y vota a delincuentes.

Unites States problem: underlying problem: It's living beyond its means, with the government routinely spending more than it makes because of the TaxScam

Maybe Govt spend more on IT

Because they don’t have a stable currency and overspending government.

Sounds like the US!

Uuuuuuuuuh

Ummm...idk if anyone in the US should really be criticizing this

Peronism. Kirchnerism. Corruption. Populism. All synonyms in Argentina.

No

Do you have addresses for these mattresses?

Because we have some shit called “Kirchnerismo”

Because are all of Italian origin!? XD

So long don’t try to invade the Falkland Islands 🇫🇰 again! Otherwise they will get their arses kicked again! 🇬🇧

...too much Italian...too many Italians too

Socialism.

Neoliberalization of Argentina made it like it is. Those corrupt Politicians ruining the country must be removed.

How many rubles they got their in Argentina?

They always do. In 2008 I got $4 pesos for $1 US. Now it fluctuates $50-$55 pesos for $1 US. That country is a mess.

The crisis is Neoliberalism. The only 'Regime Change' needed are in UK, US. This will fix most of the world's problems immediately. DemocraticSocialism2020 End Neoliberalism Corbyn Bernie2020
