European stock markets diverged at the start of trade on Tuesday, with London's benchmark FTSE 100 index down 0.1 per cent at 7,281.24 points.[LONDON] European stock markets diverged at the start of trade on Tuesday, with London's benchmark FTSE 100 index down 0.1 per cent at 7,281.24 points.

Frankfurt's DAX 30 index rose 0.7 per cent to 13,057.04 points and the Paris CAC 40 added 0.2 per cent to 5,795.78, compared with Monday's closing levels.
