Ireland is to help fund the construction of a new waste water treatment plant in Gaza where most of the water supply is contaminated |

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney is in Gaza, where Ireland has announced investment of €8.8 million in a new waste water treatment plant, which will be powered by solar energy."We're going to spend almost €9 million building one of the largest solar projects across the Middle East.

He added: "Ireland continues to advocate for a change in that political circumstance. The Irish position in relation to Israeli settlements and the expansion of those settlements is very clear. We regard this as illegal under international law.

Water pollution is one of the leading causes of child mortality in Gaza - 97% of the water supply there is unfit for human consumption, according to the World Health Organization. The investment in solar power means the plant will not rely on expensive diesel fuel in a built up area that frequently experiences power cuts.

Good. And for anyone drawing parallels between Dublin and Gaza...get a grip and do a bit more travelling.

Hows about fixing Irelands drinking water problem FineGael ?

Do you hear this Israel. The Water Is IRISH & French owned so bomb it at your peril....

simoncoveney This at a time when people in dublin suburbs are being advised to buy and drink bottled water, because of the lack of investment needed to update the Leixlip water treatment plant. When the ancient lead piping system is leak8ng huge amounts of water everyday! How is this allowed?

Useful idiots. Billions thrown at Gaza every year for the last 50+ years. None of it used for good. Nada. Nil. Zilch. But hey, useful idiots keep throwing to feel morally superior

simoncoveney wait what? I thought they said Gaza was so densely populated, that there is nowhere to fire missiles from except for populated areas. Clearly there are thousands of hectares of available unpopulated land

LMAO

Why?

simoncoveney Please open your eyes. Gaza is Jew-free. They have a land. Hamas has the world showering $billions & providing services that a gov't, territory should be providing. What are they spending their money on, TERROR STOP ENABLING.

Is Ireland suppling the fluoride

If it wasn't so tragic it would be funny... poor Irish people..

He should recognize Palestine as a state like it used to be before it was colonized

What about Leixlip ?

Just a matter of time until there's a headline which reads: 'Waste water treatment plant bombed by IDF'

Waste of time and money- you’ll see....

While our very own water treatment plant in Leixlip is a state of the art facility providing thousands of Irish Citizens with the elixir of life itself.

And teach them how to add sewerage to the drinking water like the keep doing and any amount of fish kills to go with it real pros like most of the civil service

simoncoveney Anyone want to guess at how much of this Irish taxpayer money will end up the bank accounts of the lads wearing shades?

simoncoveney Brilliant

Meanwhile shit pours directly into the sea in several locations around Ireland, begorrrah

Coul we fix our own contaminated water first ?boilwaternotice

Boil notices in Ireland today, can we not solve that first?

That's lovely, after recent events our own water supply needs fixing, among lots of other things... Charity starts at home... It's a good and important cause yes, but so many issues here where it's being claimed there are no funds... I know we're obliged to do this, still rankles

Didn't expect this. A rare positive decision from the Irish government!

Watch the loons come out to condemn a simple humanitarian act.

At lease the Gazans have water. I have to boil my water before I use it. That’s what I deserve for living in war torn Fingal Co. Dublin

Next time IrishWater comes looking for money just remind him our lads are over in Gaza with their cheque books at the ready.

Government announces €1 billion investment in national rail networkThe investment in civil engineering programmes will take place from 2020 to 2024. Can it really be called a national rail network if doesn't service the whole nation? Donegal The dublin to wexford line needs immediate attention! Single line / huge risk of erosion / developing commuter need Just to be clear, “investment” would suggest something new, there is nothing new in this, this lump sum is just making up for a lack of PSO funding in the rail network over the last decade. This is mostly for renewal/maintenance/updating, nothing new per-se. fakenews
