A new site of interest has been identified in the search for a missing baby and mother in Sydney. A dog walker found a “placenta and an umbilical cord of a human” on the water’s edge of the Cooks River near Wardell Rd in Earlwood about 4.30pm on Monday.

Police search for missing mum and baby in Sydney. Amid a frantic search for the mother and baby, NSW Police identified a new site in mangroves on the Cook’s River about 10am on Tuesday. That site is currently being examined, with forensic officers called to the area. “It’s particularly muddy down there,” Detective Chief Superintendent Christine McDonald said.
