KUALA LUMPUR: A decision with regards to the existing six-month moratorium on bank loans will be announced soon, says Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

"With regards to the discussions with Bank Negara and the banking sector on the way forward, they have given a commitment to continue assisting the rakyat and businesses that need help in this trying time.

He added that the banks had lost a total of RM6.4bil since the implementation of the moratorium, which affected their capacity in providing new loans totalling some RM79bil. "For these groups, targeted assistance is being considered by the banks who are also taking proactive steps in contacting borrowers," he added.
