Singapore shares rise at open tracking Wall Street gains; STI up 0.2%

Banking stocks were mixed in early morning trade. DBS was trading up 0.4 per cent or S$0.09 to S$20.96, UOB advanced 0.3 per cent or S$0.05 to S$19.66, while OCBC was down 0.1 per cent or S$0.01 to S$8.67.

Other active index counters included Singtel which was down 0.4 per cent or S$0.01 to S$2.29 and Yangzijiang Shipbuilding which rose 1.6 per cent or 1.5 Singapore cents to 94.5 cents.as data showed improving US manufacturing trends. The Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 1.4 per cent to 11,939.67 to post a third straight record. The S&P 500 also finished at a record, winning 0.8 per cent to 3,526.65, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.8 per cent to end at 28,645.66.
