How about the lack of innovation on their phones, the extremely high price for the new phones maybe those are reasons people are buying. I didn’t upgrade because my present iPhone is fine.

Are they going to admit that their phones aren't desirable in an ever crowded smartphone market? People weren't interested in the iPhone X and this year with the XS and XS Max being essentially the same devices as last year, sales slumped. That's the real problem.
