Cabinet has said the finance minister will lead a consultative process on the recommendations of the Nugent inquiry into governance at Sars

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni will lead a “consultative process” to amend the SA Revenue Service Act to improve governance and accountability, including the possible establishment of an inspector-general.

Nugent found that most failings at Sars stemmed from a “massive failure of governance and integrity” under former commissioner Tom Moyane. One of the key recommendations was the urgent appointment of a Sars commissioner. The appointment of the new commissioner, Edward Kieswetter, was announced after the cabinet meeting.

Tito Mboweni blasted on social media for claiming SA is too 'Africanist''You go get to the airport through immigration, most of the immigration officials would be Africans, yet they should really be representing the demographics of the country, which is black and white, male and female.' Tito is right. We cry when companies are all white 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Why is that same emphasis made on senior management of private sector companies as well? We can't have 50/50 numbers because Indians ,colourds and white are the minority, but I do think that we should ensure that every sector represents our diversity.

Tito Mboweni doesn’t bow to popular political utterances. He would rather be right & contrarian than wrong & popular. We need officials who can make hard and unpopular decisions. SANRAL’s decision wreaks of electioneering without fiscal prudence and sound management principles Its unlawful, should never have been built. I suppose this Minister can afford to pay for all of us🤔
