A worker has died from head injuries sustained when he fell several metres at a residential construction site in Melbourne’s east. The 56-year-old man was pouring concrete from a platform at height when he fell about 2m in Doncaster East last Tuesday. He suffered life-threatening head injuries and died in hospital three days later. WorkSafe is investigating the man’s death. There have been 11 recorded workplace fatalities so far in 2024.
On March 18, a 31-year-old worker was seriously injured when he fell 2m while working on roof trusses at a building site in Brunswick East. WorkSafe executive director of health and safety Narelle Beer said these kinds of incidents were frustrating because falls from height are largely preventable. “A fall can happen in just seconds but the consequences can last a lifetime, including devastating injuries and loss of life,” she said.
