Federal Budget 2019: Coalition woos voters with cash, tax cuts

Workers will not see a meaningful pay rise for the next 18 months under the gloomier outlook, sharpening the political contest over workplace laws as Mr Shorten campaigns on restoring penalty rates and raising the minimum wage. The budget is likely to repeat the debate from one year ago when Labor rejected the second and third stages of the government's $144 billion tax pakage. But the government will not put the package to Parliament before the election campaign. The budget sets out surpluses worth $31.7 billion over the four years to June 2022, up from $15.3 billion for the same period in the forecasts issued last May.
