AFL great Brendan Fevola believes there were telling signs in the aftermath of Dustin Martin’s 300th game that spoke volumes about the superstar Tiger’s future. Rumours about Martin possibly retiring have been swirling around for some time and three weeks ago Fevola said he had “mail” that Martin would retire after his 300th. “ say thank you to the Richmond fans after his 300th,” the goalkicking legend said on The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick in May. “Have a couple of months off. Get fit.
“He was clapping to the crowd. He was really lapping it up. I reckon he was saying goodbye. “I reckon there was something else in it ... I think he’s cooked. He needs to rest his body.” Fevola said Martin was an “absolute superstar” and “in the top five players probably of all time”. “ was a script writer’s dream. First goal kicked of the game was by the great Dustin Martin …. and then he went missing,” Fevola said. “That was all he did. I think he’s checked out.
