OMAHA, Neb. — As the Warren Buffett faithful flock here once again for the annual “Woodstock for capitalists” this weekend, there’s one question that few will dare to say out loud but plenty are thinking. That thought would amount to heresy at any time of the year in this Midwestern town, where stock-market magician Warren Buffett has spent half a century building his local investment vehicle into one of the world’s most valuable companies.
Realistically, how much longer will this pair continue to weave their magic? And without Buffett and Munger at the helm, will Berkshire still be unique? The questions doesn’t end there either. Berkshire BRK.B, +1.27% now sports a gigantic $530 billion market value, making it one of the largest companies in the world. It’s one thing to expect market-beating returns when an investment fund is small and nimble.
They added that Berkshire’s wholly-owned companies didn’t even perform as well as the publicly traded stocks it bought, so it didn’t have a lot of internal management magic either.
What’s wrong with an S&P 500 index that grows at 15-20% Works for me.
Special? Berkshire hasn’t paid their shareholders since 1967 and people thought it was special? 😂
