Liberal MP Tim Wilson says states need to 'raise their own revenue and be held accountable for it”.

Liberal MP Tim Wilson says states need to "raise their own revenue and be held accountable for it”. Western Australian Liberal Senator Dean Smith proposed broadening the GST or increasing the rate to 12.5 per cent to eliminate payroll taxes - a move that could boost Australia's economy by $18 billion.

The proposal would see sales taxes imposed on fresh food, health, childcare, private school and university fees for the first time. Mr Wilson told Sky News on Monday “when states receive money, spend money but are not responsible for collecting it then they will end up in a situation where they have little responsibility which is quite dangerous,” he said. “We need states and the Commonwealth to take responsibility...

Tim Wilson is a leftie who was voted into the liberal party to be united as one right wing govern ment ... he is straying on his own and could loose his seat easily ..

Sure Tim, but then there's no need to give any of the money to federal gov, is there? You'll have to get a job.

Tim's IPA earns none of its funding, and nor does the LNP. Unless accepting bribes counts as 'raising their own revenue'.

How about we get rid of an extra layer of government. Say the Federal government?

So... this was the secret tax agenda of the coalition.

They are raising $billions in stamp duty (should’ve been abandoned when GST introduced) landfill taxes, payroll taxes, payg hospital visits. It goes on and on and on..with no accountability.

Tim must be off his head on special K again. Where does he think the federal government gets its money from, a money tree in the garden at Parliament House? FFS.

They do. It’s called GST. YOU feds then take it all. Wilson is a self-promoted IPA stooge.

Boooo

How would Wilson know.

Funny that one of the reasons given for the need for the GST was the States inability to raise their own taxes. Short memories.

Operative words 'held accountable.'

Is this Timbo's way of saying the LNP aren't up to the job?

Qld and WA will be ok.

Stupid man, never heard of federation and the Australian constitution. One of favourite sons!!! My 16 year old is smarter than this dufus.....

Says the party that just cut Billions of $'s in taxes!!!! Are we supposed to have forgotten that?

giddeygirl Tim is a dumbo. The tax was introduced by the Howard Govt and replacing the previous federal wholesale sales tax system and designed to phase out a number of various State and Territory Government taxes, duties and levies such as banking taxes and stamp duty. His own party.

F*wit! A. Doesn’t remember the deal on GST. No wonder his mob think Capt Cook circumnavigated Australia. B. That would make the federal govt redundant. Adios TimWilsonMP

They do. GST.

giddeygirl Despite the GST being put in to fund states while they reduced their own taxes to help. How’s that surplus looking, eh? Still wanting someone else to take responsibility for paying the price of LNP’s rubbish policies. What a failure of a government.

Or if you pay $190k to learn how to be sympathetic, you are just pathetic

And when the Feds have a typo in the submarine budget for over $1b they do t get to say squat about others budgeting skills

Will the Feds transfer GST to the states? I doubt it. Company tax?

Umm, they did, but after Fed court ruled items such as excise was a fed tax, they lost it. GST is the states tax, but with a shocking system to administer. And in reality all the costs related to population, roads, schools, hospitals are borne by the states, feds take the tax

So the federal LNP are all power no responsibility?

😂😂

So, how about Victoria secedes then! All you other states can fuck off and so can the Federal Govt and ll PAYE taxes and GST revenue generated by Vic stays in Vic. Sounds fair eh TimWilsonMP

The Liberals really don't have a backbench deep enough to hide all of the numbskulls.

What don’t we just lose state governments we are way over governed fed, state council

In that case let’s do away with federal income tax and GST and let the states run their own tax system and we won’t need a federal government

Then hand back income tax to the states to run TimWilsonMP.

Where do federal mps think money comes from if not states and territorie. Everyone lives in one, there’s no separate workforce

Ummmm, we do but canberra takes a Huge amount of our revenue, then pisses it up against the wall. take responsibility for your own shortcomings Liberal party stooge

Tax is definitely not my strong suit but judging by the comments here Tim you're talking shit again.

'Revenue' Wilson....a LNP back bencher dimwit 'authority' on everything. Can Smirky give him some junior ministry somewhere, maybe assisting Cash with her whiteboard, so we are spared the pudgy, puffy face of loudmouth Wilson on tv...especially on the bloody ABC!

Spot on Tim 👍

Wa should stop giving money to fed

As does federal govt More so

so how is that done

The tax system is stuffed, but Yes of course the states need to raise their own revenue.

Look at moi, Relevance deprivation syndrome

Don't recall that thought lnp bubble floating around during election campaign.

What like this TimWilsonMP you MUPPET

This Country doesn’t have a revenue or a spending problem. They have a problem with tax deduction and big business.

It is called a GST you dingbat

Stuck on the back bench ☹☹

Yes especially the ones in Queensland that invests in government jobs only. Queensland suffering from communist rule!

can we start with the Federal Govt. being accountable?

ljayes In what official capacity is Timmy speaking out in now?

Land taxes are a great way of raising revenue, GST is economic overhead, it costs businesses more to buy goods and to comply , it costs households more in essentials.

How about we let the states keep their own GST and see how that goes. 🥴Are all LNP politician idiots.

As should federal pollies.

ljayes Actually the Commonwealth took the power to collect income taxes off the states and then the Liberal Party made them cut taxes when they bought in the GST.

And here it comes.... Morrison already floated the idea of 15% GST as treasurer but Turnbull stopped him, now the highest taxing government in Australian history is starting get people ready for their second attempt... Slow clap brain dead liberal voters 😂 😂 😂

TimWilsonMP passes federal/national responsibility to the States because his party can’t be bothered...

Here's an idea - the States become fee for service fund managers for retirees to invest in a bunch of high yielding stocks paying fully franked dividends and who then claim the tax rebate. Good luck with your surplus ScoMo.

Well that's fine Tim, are you going to hand income tax powers back to the states then?

This is of course true Lately states want all the legislative power and none of the responsibilities

We are a Federation. States gave up rights to tax incomes when that happened, and when the GST was introduced they gave up other taxes as well. Doesn't this git get it? auspol

Give income tax back to States then
